12.08.2022 – Calgary to Abbotsford

Talking about an early morning…. this is one. In the “middle of the night” I was picked up by Kyle and then we drove to Karen’s apartment where we parked and switched cars.

Karen drove all of us to the airport, because we are going to the Geowoodstock in Abbotsford, close to Vancouver.

There are direct flights with different airlines, but we took Westjet – a new airline for me – and the airport code of YXX is also special (at least for flying nerds^^).

Nothing special. An ATR 72-400 where I payed for a window seat (have to make a small video there), only to find out, that I got one of the two seats, that don’t have a window. Luckily I was able to switch to an empty seat and get my view. 1 hour and 45 minutes of flight before we arrived.

Karen had booked a car for driving around and it took a while before got it. Long cues. No problem for me – I am on holiday, but some people might be a little bit impatient. 😀

Drive to the city and the Hotel… or should I say “Biggest shithole of he Universe”? Second would describe it best. Ramada by Wyndham – remember that and stay away. Smelly room, the door was broken (someone wanted to get inn or out…), burn holes in the furniture, holes in the wall, the trash not emptied… And the hotel was not cheap at all. I complained and got the key to another room, that was worse. So I kept the one I had and contacted customer service. Terrible. Wouldn’t help me. Wrote to the manager – wouldn’t help. Stay away!!!!! They reduced my bill at the end of the stay – but even as a gift I should have been compensated for something.

But let’s concentrate on the rest of the event. Geowoodstock is a Geocaching Giga-Event – that means a few thousand people are looking for boxes in the wild using a GPS and they gather at big events. 😀 My second GIGA-event this year after Prague.

The event doesn’t start before the next day, but there are small events in the evening. Found some caches, drove around and then to the hotel, relaxing before the next day.
