Sleep gets better. Today is a more quiet day after two long walking stretches. Good news, the weather is amazing. 28 degrees and blue sky. That means sunblock on, sunglasses on, and out of the hotel.
Nice with warm weather after two wet and humid days. First order is breakfast at Saint Marc Café, in the same building as ours. Two small croissants and a caffè latte before we board the train towards Zushi.
One stop on the yellow line and then the Yokosuka Line all the way down to Zushi. Takes about 1 hour 25 minutes for 1,034 yen (5.74 €).
Out of the station and towards the beach. Small streets, different than central Tokyo. But not many people around. A little stop at the Cremahop Café to buy an ice cream. You choose the cup or waffle, how many scoops, and then the flavors. You can taste before deciding. I taste lychee tea sorbet, lavender and blueberry, and then blackberry. Blackberry and lychee it is. Massive portion of ice cream and very delicious. Around 4 €. Good on a hot day.
Through narrow streets further south towards the beach. Not a white sand beach, more gray and a lot of shells from the ocean. Very few people here. Some on surfboards in the water (not that much wind though), and even fewer using the beach. It’s around 12 when we’re there. We didn’t bring anything to sit on. Next best plan, find a place to sit and do nothing.
That place is Nagisa Kyo Café, where we can sit under a big sunroof outside and enjoy the view. We’re lucky and see Fuji-san for half of the day.
Half of the day means we stay there until 19:00. Five hours just sitting, ordering snacks and drinks to have a reason to sit there, read, talk, and play on our phones. As soon as we ordered alcohol, we were asked if we drive. No. But on the bill in the end it says: not driving. 😂🚘
They also don’t care that we don’t speak Japanese. Every order is read back and we wait for known words and say “hai.” So the day goes with the luxury of just sitting and existing, which is amazing. I need more of that. No pressure, just enjoying what one has earned by working. And the whole time in the restaurant with a little snack and pasta and drinks was only about 35 € per person.
But we also have to go back. This time by bus from the café to the station. The system is to get in at the back of the bus and use your Suica card, and when you leave you do it at the front, using the card again. You see in the front which zone you entered the bus in, and what you have to pay. The cash option is more complex.
Time to find the only geocache (which was hidden high, so that even I had to climb on something, but small Japanese people…). And then the stamp for the book at the station. And as the train was very full on our way in, and even the 19:51 train will bring us into a kind of rush hour in Tokyo, we chose to pay extra for Green Car tickets. Just pay at the machine and load it onto your card. It’s paid by distance (70 km for us is 1,000 yen extra or 5.55 €). For this long ride even 11 € is an acceptable price. We even turned one seat around to be able to face each other. We might also have forgotten to turn it back when we left… Tourists. 😂You just tap the card you loaded with the first-class (Green Car) ticket on a reader above the seat, and the conductor sees that you paid. If not paid beforehand, you do it there, but pay a little more.Very comfy way to get back to the hotel.
But first a snack of 6 dumplings at a small restaurant near the station for about 2 €.A quiet and relaxing day. Tomorrow there will be rain again. How much we don’t know yet. We will see.
